In many ways, mothering the Critter keeps me busy, busy, busy. I mean, my goodness, why should it take so freaking long to get one child dressed in the morning? But, what with the chasing, and the cajoling, and the negotiations about what will actually be worn, it certainly does take a long time, as does so much else that I do with him (oh, the hell of grocery shopping!).
But, as the Critter’s mom, I’ve also been doing a heckuva lot more nothing than I’ve done in years and years and years.
At the park, I sit on a blanket and watch the Critter run in the grass.
We squat at the edge of the Lullwater and drag sticks through the duckweed.
We sit together on a bench and eat bagels.
And so on. Yeah, we do have somewhat of a schedule, and I do have my spells of trying to do too much — but still, there are a few hours every week when the Critter and I aren’t doing anything in particular. He doesn’t know it, of course, but those hours are the Critter’s gift to me.
I need a little more time like that these days, and so for the next few weeks I’m going on a bit of a vacation from this blog. Until September, you won’t be finding me here or on Twitter. I will be jotting notes and posting links on my Facebook page, though, so do follow me there, if you don’t already. And then you can expect me back here on September 7 with a Wordless Wednesday post — I promise!

It really is a wonderful gift – this time spent together doing nothing. Enjoy the break!

Enjoy these lovely weeks of doing a bit more nothing than usual–and yes, what a gift that is! (This is a reminder to me that I need to do “more nothing” with M and A. It’s a gift *to* them as well.)

I waffle between finding that kind of nothingness blissful or maddening.
Hope your enjoying your break

Thank you, everyone, for the good wishes! It actually turned out to be a busy August, so there probably wouldn’t have been any nothing at all if I had been trying to write for the blog. Looking forward to getting back here next week! And best wishes to you all for a lovely Labor Day weekend!
