Fridays at The Variegated Life: on what I’ve read or am reading …
A few weekends ago, we moved my desk from the bedroom to the living room. In its place by the window I now have a rocking chair, so that I can sit with the Gnome in the sunlight.
On the tray next to the chair:
- A mug for water
- A pad of paper, a pen, and extra ink for jotting down the lines of poetry and other thoughts that arise when I sit in the chair
- The remote control for the stereo
- One Hundred Poems from the Chinese translated by Kenneth Rexroth
- Space, in Chains by Laura Kasischke
- The three most recent issues of Poetry magazine
- The most recent issue of Mountain Record
As far as I’m concerned, that chair is the best place in the apartment. Even better than our bed! The Gnome thinks it’s cozy, too.
And the Critter has room enough at my feet for his trains.
I’ll be linking up this post at The Mahogany Way this weekend to share my Mama’s Timeout. And if you want to follow my admittedly haphazard reading habits, find me on Goodreads.

Hola! Lovely babies! My next book is Swamplandia. I can’t wait to read it. I really enjoyed Russell’s earlier collection of short stories. Much xoxo
First, LOVE the photo in your header. Beautiful.
Now for this collection. That chair is incredible. I wish I had had one and I love your collection of items within reach. Gorgeous new babe and your older one seems so content. Train sets are magical that way, aren’t they?

What a lovely space for reading, nursing, and playing. Nice light coming in, and that rocking chair sure looks comfy! You have a nice reading list….I’m working my way out of parenting related books. Seems like everything I read relates back to mothering, or parenting in some sort of way. Thanks for linking up and sharing!
sweet boys.
Sounds like an absolutely blissful spot! It’s so good to have a corner of the world in which to ground and center.
