Mondays at The Variegated Life: links to some stuff I’ve liked …

As planned, we moved my desk to the living room about seven weeks ago. I gave up a view of back alleys, fire escapes, treetops, and a bit of the sky for a view of a brick wall. Some plants from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden have helped to improve the view.

I have managed to keep the pothos alive for about a year, so there’s hope for the other two plants that I added to the “sindowill” (as the Critter calls it) last week. I am not yet ready to show anyone (except family and other visitors) the desk itself. I’ve been working hard to clear it off and keep it that way, but hey, I have a newborn. There’s a lot of clutter in my life right now.

As I create a new space for my work, I’ve been thinking a lot about this post on dreaming organically by Michelle at The Parent Vortex. She writes, “Whatever we give our attention to will grow, and a path will emerge in front of us, as if it was there waiting the whole time.” To what am I giving my attention? Alas, I think I’m thinking about the clutter too much — thinking about how I’m going to clear it away so that I can get started on the real work. Of course, that’s just a way to procrastinate. So I love what Michelle wrote in this comment to me, “I try to write a draft on every workable idea I get.” OK, I can do that, even now at a not-yet-clear desk.

Meanwhile, I’ve also been enjoying the creative projects that Leslie at Lights and Letters has been assigning herself, such as her Photo Walk Fridays. That’s one way to learn to give attention to what’s right here. Such as this lovely blue cup of café mocha:
