“That’s a Lot”

by Rachael on January 25, 2012

Last Friday, when I told the Critter that I was going to be going to an appointment to check on the Gnome, he said, “That’s a lot.”

“What’s a lot?” I asked.

“Going to the hospital two days in a row. That’s a lot.”

Never mind that I had actually been to the hospital on Tuesday, three days earlier, and not the day before. But I simply explained that I wasn’t going to the hospital, but to a clinic where he had been with me once before, to see the Gnome’s 20-week scan. (In October! Another lifetime ago.)

But, yeah, we’re not even a month into 2012, and it’s already been a lot.

We said good-bye to our green-eyed cat yesterday.

My dear, sweet Angus; my gentle companion for nearly twelve years …

Going forward, until who knows when, I’ll probably be posting once or twice a week, but not on my regular schedule.

And I do want to respond to all of your comments (both here and elsewhere) on Monday’s post. In the meantime, please know how much your support means to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

So sorry about Angus :(

And about your changes in plans, although I’m glad to hear that all looks good for the Gnome. Add a check from me in the “positive hospital birth experience” column. I think the right support team (in my case, a wonderful doula) + the mental preparation you’re doing now will go a long way.

Take good care!

It is a lot! So sorry to hear about the loss of your cat, it is a hard thing no matter the circumstances.

The only certainty in birth is that there is no certainty, so all the emotional work you are doing now to prepare for unexpected changes in birth plans is work to prepare for labour too. Have you read spiritual midwifery? It is an oldie but a goody, full of examples of how mindset influences birth no matter the setting.

A lot, indeed. xoxo
And once or twice a week sounds good to me! I am a study in irregularity at the moment.
Sigh…
